Sofia Eloranta: The Phase1 trainee programme leaves me with gratitude for my great team

During summer 2024, Sofia Eloranta has worked as a Phase1 trainee in Orion’s Information Management team. The trainee programme has offered meaningful and instructive work tasks, and a strengthened desire to deepen her own expertise.

Hello from Information Management, Data Solutions team! This is Sofia, a fourth-year student of Engineering and Natural Sciences and minor student in information and knowledge management at Tampere University. I've been interested in natural sciences for a long time, but I have become particularly fascinated with the use of data to support decision-making during the last year.

I started at Orion at the beginning of May as an IT Solution Expert Trainee. The pharmaceutical industry is intertwined with the natural sciences, so I have had the opportunity to learn more about a business that really interests me, while working on subjects that I particularly want to develop further in.

In my role, I have been able to see how the subjects covered in my studies are connected to practical matters in an organisation the size of Orion. Seeing the bigger picture has made me want to deepen my knowledge even further, as it makes you really understand what things are connected to and how they interact with one another.

I have also learned about many of the special characteristics of the pharmaceutical industry and many other things that you wouldn't necessarily learn about based on your studies. My own work has involved the daily use of Microsoft 365 tools, including, for example, data-driven reporting using Power BI. I have been offered varied work tasks on a wide range of topics, which has lead to learning a wide-range of things.

In addition to meaningful and educational tasks, I have particularly appreciated the comprehensive induction that I was given, as well as all the extra activities. During the summer, I have heard about the organisation and the pharmaceutical industry from people in various roles, followed production operations, discovered the varied career paths and educational backgrounds within the organisation, and enjoyed getting to know other Phase1 trainees, for example during a summer outing to Tuohilampi.

I would encourage other students, regardless of field, to find out more about the jobs offered at Orion, as the opportunities available are incredibly extensive.

This summer will leave me with warm memories and gratitude to the great team, who, with their professional skills, have motivated me, taught me a lot and welcomed me as part of the team!

Best wishes,
Sofia
